My poor little blog has been suffering this year, but a lovely email from a special bloggy friend has prompted me to post. My blog might be quiet but life has been going on at its usual rapid pace. I have been knitting socks and shawls, English paper piecing diamonds and a little applique. <div><br></div><div>Some exciting things have happened too. This little favorite of mine won second place in the Miniature category at the Sydney Quilt Show in June. I have wondered for ten years if a quilt of mine would ever be exhibited there, let alone win a prize. What a great experience it was. I loved doing my white glove duty too, and spending a crafty weekend in Sydney with the Cassilis Quilters.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_b24b_1ed1_92ac_9692" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-PxLCCXdC7Kn3dNdYTtR674HWlQuyjZhgsnzEiax0qCHZG9VojN94qcSn1GB-Qa3WK-wdiDbhbNV4jtwNIzzm9uIUPvqewBWRNtLwc8dkGlpGaOZ_Kwt-znBIrnsEhqcgmogZvyC53Dk/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 470px; height: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">It was also exciting to see my own design, Doing The Rounds hanging at the show. It didn't win a prize, but it's my favorite quilt ever. From the scrappy original sketch to every single hand stitch, it is my own work, and a personal goal achieved. The icing on the cake was being approached to make a pattern for my quilt, and it will soon be available to purchase from </span><a href="http://www.dequiltster.com/nl/" id="id_f5b1_95b4_6058_c093" style="text-align: center;">De Quiltster</a> in the Netherlands. After some concerns about a few wrinkles, I am thrilled with how it turned out. I plan to hang it above my bed, but it may just stay in the lounge room for a while so I can show it off!<div><br><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_c11c_8147_e8cb_ad3a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-KTpuaO6nBrrG2mfWGEo_MGLC9x8yiiq6dWTFTSiCoFqM0x7DBVvZGn8qnxNKJGP5hH6KYBVDeVMRMfj0syHLPG0rx_SMRqoOULLI1L_UR4eM9hqAT1wBVSvsgExJTn5nJu8Mvk3psac/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 579px; height: auto;"> <br></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Surprisingly difficult to photograph it without reflections, but I think you can get the idea. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I am still knitting socks and quilting my Doing the Rounds quilt. I have one corner left to go so it should be finished soon. A few ideas for the next quilt floating around, possibly red and white, or blue and white. I'm concerned I will find them boring to work on after a while, but I do love the end results. Red and White Quilts - Infinite Variety is probably my favorite book.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Work and family have been busy. My second son has turned 18 and is well into his final year at school, and we're wondering where life might lead us next. Hopefully I can get back to posting on my blog a bit more regularly. I do still cruise around your blogs, just not so much commenting these days. I'm Thimblestitch1 on Instagram if you have it, not so many words but more pictures.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Hope you're well and finding lots of spare moments to be creative.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Susan x</div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718801532958257392noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674374790487508339.post-51282115054692919792017-02-10T10:56:00.001+11:002017-02-10T10:56:59.205+11:00Hello there!Long time no blog! <div><br></div><div>Scarlett Ribands is finished and at the framers. Very interesting, he did well! We enjoyed discovering some of the Bay area, I really liked Napa and Sonoma. But my absolute favourite was the giant redwoods at Muir Wood National Monument, they were breathtaking.<div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_2afd_7a13_73f2_3416" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK0u4P06axHgioPqTGOeK5lUJqzxpANZRPyL0yNZsbBFgrnfjlL6fOukS8l8NF1R_0_KiPajgutEXWXLu6UA-dtIysvVi-KiSNlpvZj8AYgyNY4P_iibm6_4QZZ7cz4DtOAK3PVYewvpI/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 379px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">After three days driving we arrived back in San Francsico. Such a different city to New York, but still lots to see and do. We rode bikes over the Golden Gate Bridge, rode the street cars and cable cars, toured Alcatraz and really enjoyed the steep hills and beautiful houses.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_bde5_c60b_784d_e603" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EYa4Ob5gYCQ/WHBFtVCKFCI/AAAAAAAAFNw/HQCkYcICEo0/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 472px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">New Years Eve was a little quieter as coughs and sniffles started to slow us down. After a year of planning we are on our USA holiday. First stop was New York, and wow, what a city. Words can't describe the hectic pace of life here, so different to my quiet country town. Our first adventure was crazy, a race from the airport to the hotel, to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden (we left the boys at the hotel). Other highlights would have to be top of the Rockefeller Centre, Central Park, ice skating and all the wonderful Christmas trees and decorations. They really know how to decorate here. There was snow on the ground when we arrived, but it didn't actually snow while we were there. It was cold enough though, barely getting above zero the first few days. Thank goodness for my woolly socks!<div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_43ef_69c8_ae70_e7ac" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QcpHfVoWKQE/WGXkSNVzaAI/AAAAAAAAFM4/EDn4RmoWApo/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 524px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_a657_96ec_4b99_d433" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-uCbQM2McM12hyphenhyphene6gnv7PaDTrjLJ66ouEJvjMLpmsf2XVJh9sBkbu8z9exKyyYjMxgENe0heeuXKHh6xThBOFNkS45wYknd3T3TPm2xDhEhCoqFfZMy0F17kcYKnzp2GsNwA1JTulPI/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 386px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_b54c_749_e5af_4dd5" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdeZxDLccfebcIV5rOK0oO5_Bj3lHVnHY34CCnkmAZP1N1w_mnEV_Pd92HLvuL5DM0EV4Bgdugdfm5wMUivkaeisXZYwgE89HTH8cPzP4cSpUZiKhyphenhyphenvJuPJ3UxbnmYSqNxoZaFG7whpqU/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 527px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_9251_280d_98d3_240c" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGEW4gEAIzCPIiQHUxlZ6ykB10n1VEIL72JM3UhdapGhoVApU89h7XKLyZvF-kqNLNVgYSXqyoFzX_XI3n1DJUqZdXEgIzyH7ptTZLoHLX0xtRfTQU0U27vWizO9f_PlOqt8VDtfdii3c/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 405px; height: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I loved this giant button and needle in the garment district.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_7fc2_914b_402e_934" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9llxelCSSOfXwoOjqOadRSzewch6LAe_Vmt4VqMKgpliJOMLWQ8kH4UiWnkejpsWWmkXqDXWTNRWHqnXCuF7_3eQ0aRjjCF1AXRVylNBqZUNEADbql35lZvZIUG6HORef6J5ovVu7_1U/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 347px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I was very pleased to knit my way across the Pacific Ocean. Life is busy!<div><br></div><div>Since my last post I've had a wonderful sewing weekend at Nundle........despite the four hour power and Internet blackout. Time spent with stitching friends is always good. Much to their horror, I knitted all weekend. I decided to try a shawl, and whilst it's finished, I'm not happy with the colour or how it hangs. I've thrown it to the back of the cupboard for now. I did finish some socks and another little stocking.</div><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_b305_5fd_6655_218a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHOCHAgFphwQGEbVGFcKemlxs_CUTka_gnC3e-l0TSL4Cl5sRP2e0i3fgTilLcjm68H3A85Dh0wJs1aHoc_LNi77WFCX4wk5-V90ZkvxGxpnQeXahW-8BQizrfKsfNE39shbYUXzHiZ98/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 397px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_978f_3e62_bc6c_3fa5" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd6LL-YB47enHZwYTzHAUxfTYw80l2ZTNeR5w9F8Pk38HlEc2nNE8Fb0t-Y8W2Mkl461wYtVSpRZ9Pp-wiXnnnPT_Wx8QeLsspfhufX45nwD-OLK5dVz513laypNSXYAQIgYWho64uxqI/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 533px; height: auto;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">After a slow start, I'm happy to report that my SSCS is on the sleigh headed to its cold destination. It was loosely based on something I saw at the Sydney craft show last year (or the year before?) and has sat as a flimsy waiting for something more to happen. It hasn't turned out quite as I envisioned but it has reached the point where it has to be finished or thrown. I think it will make a good portable sewing project for my flight in ju st 3.5 weeks. It's so hot that I've changed my winter wardrobe over to summer, and packed for my cold Christmas already.......just have to add the smalls!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_6d9a_1e1a_72e5_6476" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zRIqYeB5q-M/WDNZkWGtw1I/AAAAAAAAFMA/0KBZI6i1hL0/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 509px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I am so addicted to sock knitting that I can't see a day where I won't have a pair underway. So portable, and I absolutely love the brain buzz of working out a new pattern. I accidentally purchased a skein of wool that wasn't big enough for full socks, but just enough for ankle socks..........and this is the result. I was going to gift them but not sure if I can.......</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_15ac_10e9_5e92_c645" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKoNc1ZLHZo1h2Q1ZZLBbuEw6hSpv5mrDr7p6FONLMvTj6VnkJYgngI2my4G-G_-Bw3FfQ9xzHwr_Tpks-To9LiNOqBuF1rS0zyNe5x6ghPJwFUlmB5eXRzQRygttjQjzZQUlht_lU8dw/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 505px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I'm having a delicious day off today. I don't know why I love it so much. I have dabbled in knitting on and off for years without much success but socks have me in their grip. They are such a neat, fun, portable project, and it makes me feel super relaxed. I really like wearing them too, and will be kind of sad when the weather gets too warm for them!<div><br></div><div>How good to start the weekend with a finish. A pair of socks for my husband! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_f45_87e0_782d_b715" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgXnme5_mlY7ksk5-7aDWadWwUZcMguMahEABaNji72v4r5V1Uz7OZbjQwUEwo9G9MZ7Qnq-VP2TAIqgAYQeE1_TKeYl3xKMagbY1TkcGVR59eePzwG1Pku6hsZUE5wdTwBzgO7TBXmTM/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 503px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div>I'm still quilting and cross stitching, because I love doing that too, but progress is a little slower. I haven't started anything new. I'm really desperate for a new applique project, but I'm also realistic about how much less time I have to sew these days. I hate it when I have lots of things to work on and not as much time as I'd like, so I'm being SENSIBLE and restrained.</div><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_3670_66b2_7cd5_18b6" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5lKVwIM5HU4/V-TmcKBVL5I/AAAAAAAAFKY/o6ArtF-sq7U/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 488px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>The end is in sight for Scarlett Ribands. I started the centre diamonds a while ago and Hilda has inspired me to get them out again. I love little hexagons but they're not exactly stash busting! Rather than working only in red, I'm hoping to add another colour in the next round. I find colour selection the most challenging part of quilting!<div><br><div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_d871_a1cf_40fb_2734" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAuDHnugUyuZeriFVYQe-VwV4qG89OZ93FtGv8A70g4niDdvSK2dz-eLDhuxyRtedIpKpo4wvDD00s60GhuAeGCSxjvQfDAWF7Fz4Xf_1gOkk2jmhY0WbqZ6qG4kmsiXcnm_bzOYcsegc/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 570px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div>It would be fair to say that sock knitting has been added to my list of addictions. My purple tweed Petty Harbour socks from the last post are finished and my best pair yet. So, so comfortable and soft. And the next pair cast on......although it has become my first sock fail. I fell into a trap for new knitters when I purchased the grey yarn. It was called sock wool, the skein looked a full skein, but as I was knitting, and just before the heel, I thought the ball of yarn was starting to look a bit small. A quick check of the very fine print on the label to find that it was 65g not 100g. Not getting two socks out of that, so I unraveled it all and put it aside for something else, maybe a beanie. A little disappointing, but we live and learn.<div><br><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_7171_2aa4_e03d_276e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ODNP7-w2ivI/V9NIxZP-kfI/AAAAAAAAFJ0/E43osVTGFjc/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 437px; height: auto;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">And the very next day, these lovelies arrived from Sharon at Woolarium. The red and blue are both Admiral Druck tweed, absolutely lovely to knit and wear. The blue will become a pair of socks for the man of the house!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_22f5_4436_f3ec_cf64" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge3o_sVnoYmvkZwjRY1wrR9G3Vs6hk33pKcWZnh_Flm-WPjIaN19Acaff3cGbrbFij_5IecG9wT3OsAKN_1WHsY9CXKYsEWlFoiwSfcTDNsF8OSKnwFa7eZkiwZvLUFmbtILaIROzQ8do/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 431px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"> <br></div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">It was been a rainy, rainy winter here, and last weekend our river flooded. A very rainy and overcast day off work, with not a lot of housework needing to be done. I love miserable wintery weather! Today, I've spent the afternoon knitting, and sewing a few hexagons together, and thinking about getting back to my hand quilting. <div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_144c_508c_2c05_23ca" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggA9LKABXubdVEL5rzTTGbBUXqrJnfEXtGJiZjQCrJ_jgfI2DcouZAObQpfQqXtM1JiUSfiVrAEKmf_JQqSB8K8bcdUSeqaiEl5CncPwkECLmpKvEw22N98rucBfyZdgZSH1iCdqkNz8Q/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 398px; height: auto;"> <br />

The quilt exhibition Making the Australian Quilt was exceptional, such beautiful quilts made without the tools and conveniences we take for granted. Of course my favourite was Prudence Jeffrey's hexagon quilt nd Auntie Greens. It was exciting to finally visit Lucellos after the exhibition, a little treasure chest of goodies.<div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_73b9_8436_351a_a70a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz5kMDTE_w_GtKCek-qAPul__TserOx2i0kXdbB1nxfZ2hFVLWMQfWvvcE-PZzXt_xDF6YPUGBKHTg9zRna236ZnmtWAZM75UA5mH_7dovikXxkVcFOZS1TUMuB7WdwmMF162oAD97w9c/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 402px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>It was wonderful to catch up with <a href="http://teafabricandotherthings.blogspot.com.au" id="id_e8c0_6dc7_50f8_3e27">Elyte</a> and <a href="http://maisieandtheboys.blogspot.com.au" id="id_2c7d_f7ab_d992_ef5">Marina</a> on Saturday. We have been meeting every two years as my niece and nephews turned 21, not sure what next event will bring me to Melbourne but I'm sure I'll be back again. We went to Woolarium for sock wool, GJ's and The Cutting Cloth, and had a lovely lunch afterwards. The girls spoiled me with some rabbit themed gifts including fabrics for my bunny quilt, and a bunny spoon. Of course I'm going see the quilts at the NGV! My sister has created a wonderful itinerary of quilt shops, cake and coffee...... No backing for my quilt yet so I haven't been able to start hand quilting. In fact, I haven't been working on quilts at all........I'm waiting for inspiration to strike and help me decide what to do next. So sock knitting and small projects have been occupying me.<div><br></div><div>A little bit of cross stitch, over half way now.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_8d7f_66e7_95dd_225f" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2vuG1FxgL2Or_E1p9qvZuLJvS8Ete3q6LoBbOWnhq-JhmeP5siMG4znK6RNZxX7LkcHQ7ISn_m6H6mnl1ZK_AGzC8sHvyfKZD42_SqEvGDQe24yzx11DtcNSJbNNf-wgRAXphtlIsQSo/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 438px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;"> I finished this pair of socks for my big sisters birthday......they were hard to part with.</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_2cc_3dc5_5d2b_f37c" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5NJFE4qJq1rmEW9ulgsLYqpZaGEfKuENOj0YUH7ETFnxlURG1FOHgWgwRZ7Z0vP7nzBDKnA3mIXbqbJXlMiZCiFbGs2V0wgveVR615wOuVVe8h6d2OcWWN8dfE21V2V_jJm7Uazz6qxM/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 368px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;">And have started a new pair.....</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_accb_aec6_6e46_a0b5" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbCDU7ef2AJnL_HULtc60U6U1oOSNEZAZj-t9wfEkghy20AWuY6OsM-9jYNdCyG3VOxfHWXGaB1s4HTAyTeAr8zXQenM2Kqh_01-tdTv5RE6nqzJqWxAKi_ew8MLn2vlzQXbWtTlUsw6c/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 357px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">And made a small boxy pouch just to carry my sock knitting. I have made the last stitch in my quilt "Doing the Rounds". From a rough sketch made in the car last Christmas to a finished quilt top, this has been a fun experience. Just have to find a backing and I'm ready to start quilting. <div><br><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_1af7_423_9452_c487" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VXwQhyIG1C4/V4gRpz591PI/AAAAAAAAFGA/xA0cOYJpRx4/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 522px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">That's my very frosty lawn underneath, even the bird bath was frozen this morning. The worst thing is that now I have NO applique to work on, really must try to fix that over the weekend!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">In other big news we are having a trip to the US later this year. I haven't been at home alone overnight in more than TWENTY years. Of course I've taken little trips and retreats, but not at home by myself. I'm down to one teenager today, and he's heading off on Sunday. So I have a full schedule of applique, knitting, cross stitching, cake eating and movie watching planned. <div><br></div><div>To kick things off, I gathered all my quilts for a photo shoot. Twenty two years of enjoyment, all hand quilted and mostly hand sewn. Not including mini's or quilts I've gifted. How many quilts is enough???</div><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_d35b_2b87_b96a_eafa" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7OLq55shA9k/V3cKSjXYoFI/AAAAAAAAFFg/JG2VojJVTig/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 488px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div>I'm thrilled to have finished my first pair of socks during the week. The Best of Show quilt, Love Entwined, was exquisite. I was mesmerized by the detail and workmanship. I didn't get many of the supplies on my list, but I did make some unnecessary and unexpected purchases, which is always fun too. Not pictured here is Marg Sampson Georges book. Whilst the fabrics in her quilts are daunting to me, the book is a very refreshing and liberating take on how we make our quilts, and I'm sure her designs can be adapted to my more subdued colour palette!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_c44_e02b_c3af_1097" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtiqaSMVWDDwTYXc2LR4TLjFKKbZjuRA9yr7-oD_Eg6RvsBlA-ntKvulkFMTwhG7pVfQCDYLDzWAKAp6iLCqcsOj1dG54o5X2ttT53LblsLXiqT4WQql0gC54-eGWa2Z1t2VS6B1facqM/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 486px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Hope you have a great weekend too!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Susan x</div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718801532958257392noreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674374790487508339.post-85518736346821415722016-06-18T11:44:00.000+10:002016-06-18T11:44:21.458+10:00RealityHmmmm.......so it would seem that working full time does dreadful things to a girls sewing time. Hence the lack of posting, and not really a great deal to show. It's all about priorities though, so I have been squeezing sewing time into my day. And a fair bit of knitting time too, although I wish I had the courage to pull my knitting out at lunchtime at work. My first sock is going pretty well, but I'm scared of the heel that is coming up, and of second sock syndrome. I'm following the pattern by <a href="http://winwickmum.blogspot.com.au/2015/05/sockalong-week-1-cast-on-cuff-and-leg.html" id="id_ce7c_21bd_2379_afb">Winwickmum</a>, with wool from <a href="http://thehouseofwool.com.au" id="id_63af_a984_80a2_c1da">The House of Wool</a>, and a 30cm circular needle (2.75mm). Quite fun but slow going. <div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_bf3_538_c1b7_b34a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG9Xwhxz1CKvkvoiWyfOvoiWpD0VqXqaR2YC6lVW1NtQgmAm384XMvAAaKODmyUfP4RJQmqo0GoGiM2M9YUYNF_rhIkSGK9nQsIB6X88GCwbAxs2mCBjbwxNldEhw0xLwOTPb0f57_UKU/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 409px; height: auto;"> <br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>I've also spent <strike>hours</strike> days agonising over the corners of Doing The Rounds. After seeking many opinions, I have decided to go with my engineering consultants suggestion (DH) and add some smaller petals. Thank you also to <a href="https://everystitchblog.blogspot.com.au" id="id_4f5d_d9a0_b0fc_6aa6">Hilda at Everystitch</a> for finally helping me decide and let my poor mind rest. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_33c2_6bc_5b5b_5c59" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgu7igvS5v0xBl9IuoAMvNqpNzhkTeyCVXtSSF5F_Y4TJV7Y_-Jk2OVTNCL_FV23oRbqgToowlBuBLnS-dGaYFoI5U8Il3s0stBBdkr0XsbryXjcFM_2Cp-bVQbNRCHtLVSCCEXlW2psY/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 419px; height: auto;"> <br />
</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">It's another lovely rainy weekend. Not so great though for my Mr 14 who is turning 15 tomorrow and having a bonfire party tonight. Fortunately he has a very positive personality that a bit of rain will not dampen.......and his mum thought to cover a smaller fire before the rain started. I spent a lovely few hours doing the hand quilting and binding on this little one over the weekend (13" square). It's actually a slightly variegated indigo/navy, left over from a previous project, but it's very hard to capture the colour day or night. The quilting was a little challenging because I put very very light interfacing behind the white so no blue would show, and it made it harder work with the needle through. Luckily no one will look at the back!<div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_4316_67a1_e8c0_2a72" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQklKg0Oci4yAkKfqdeO_SMP8UM1M4ac9OPUbVttCT_E3IWig3o3lQydFxvA33MPuVhlxMjUOg1TPFqiQfpnF0KuIqGFj-63DWKxcVzU291Us9lcZe58G73XCGAbikJLMZZwP1RTAek4c/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 470px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_99a_35f0_2dd5_7e2" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMKRWLMtHRE4HdEdM6ZusV7B-xKvY5xbJAvFw8cxo8FLTQN40rkKAdguppmdqmhSQKKBbSdevBERpjpMOuVzaiTBdo3vKJgxoPwFxcLViAo6vZAbpGau59cqL3u_eclUFJxS15nGiSw8w/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 478px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I'm very happy with how my mini wall is looking.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_a985_78f5_a42f_2082" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z9dsDSIl1CY/V1U-fG5Dp5I/AAAAAAAAFEA/lZ08Zgw_jko/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 486px; height: auto;"> </div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">A happy sewing start to the working week!</div><div style="text-align: left;">Susan x</div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718801532958257392noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674374790487508339.post-31292111657368586492016-06-04T21:15:00.001+10:002016-06-04T21:17:28.240+10:00Chookshed birthdayI'm joining in for a weekend of virtual sewing to celebrate the <a href="http://chookyblue.blogspot.com.au/2016/06/lunch.html" id="id_2ed0_55bd_ea1e_75b5">Chookshed's</a> fourth birthday. I am enjoying working on it so much. I can't wait til it's finished, but at the same time don't want it to end. The corners are coming together, I spent a lovely afternoon sewing circles in the Autumn sunshine yesterday.<div><br><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_1c57_e043_90cd_f95e" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6AofvoVh8jczB-VR4SFWRLLeOooIESRb24OXf_WJC8wGPNXZc0QKQbGzbXhSI8sNDq9ibsNhQhcLqqoahdmINRq8MEWiSOsYiVTNIxWBY6KdFjx915LhS4d-G7zC-k3_ioi0_HLnqSJg/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 465px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_7d72_53d1_cac7_ce13" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguC48PfxTBhMBNrjGXbwDD5CiAFNvG78ue4t36emrT6DoUC1g94cCpQx3svlnQ2pqy2kbQhCUMWNPAZmY45V-OsXz40n3jBURsXvItBWmPxPfM2fWYfN3OYrtQ9NORWZbRLt_s_QyjPiU/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 468px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I haven't braved the sock wool yet, but my cowl from the last post is finished. I also side tracked to make this little baby beanie for a work colleagues baby. I've never knitted a beanie, or used double pointed needles, and this was finished in less than two evenings. You can learn ANYTHING on YouTube! It's not perfect, but it is made with love and I could really feel the brain cells firing as I worked out how to use four needles at once. Now I've got a beanie started for one of my boys.....if only there were more hours in the day. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_9e70_79b0_e290_514a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzcQ_jZrVNyfvNM2a3r7qife4x5-Ua9G6IZpnj2fRyQTnBUlwMD8vxJte8ReMoNEoJtQtc1-fFxqnon7V7Tkb7iMSQzo49ph-_iDPiUhThTPfAEWHob_zQSYWJeKJtmhFJTXiU2SRaUrE/" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 422px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">The pattern was a free Ravelry download from LoveFibres or you can visit Julie's Etsy store <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LoveFibres" id="id_4dd7_199f_7af_95d8">here.</a> I noticed she has a pattern for adorable bootees that look like gum boots if you're interested.......</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I have an unexpected couple of days off so I'm going to race through all my housework so I can get back to my sewing and knitting!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">Happy creating,</div><div style="text-align: left;">Susan x</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09718801532958257392noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674374790487508339.post-23631442740102660542016-05-10T16:03:00.001+10:002016-05-10T16:05:09.317+10:00Catching upCatching Up is becoming a regular post heading on my blog. I've been working more than usual which leaves less time for sewing, but it's interesting and challenging work, so not a bad thing. I did however make time for a sewing day in Muswellbrook with the Cassilis quilters. No photos of the girls or our projects, but an absolutely delightful setting in the garden. Thank you Lea.<div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_fcc_c935_5b83_7fa1" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n-b64bXz_BI/VzEMSKz7ZGI/AAAAAAAAFBY/FPEYFJQs3Ew/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 415px; height: auto;"> ,<br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I have started my annual knit, another cowl in the same pattern as last year. It's actually a very pretty light blue but the lighting isn't playing along today. I am learning to give in to my knitting instinct at the beginning of each winter, although it has gotten out of control this year. I bought some sock wool at the weekend to try knitting socks.......like I need another slow project to work on!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_2f16_3cc7_5541_d62a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rlDL87kFnHw/VzEMbQ-o2TI/AAAAAAAAFBc/1bYkPmQ9y9U/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 403px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I thought this would be my first Mother's Day without my eldest son, but my wonderful husband secretly organised for Mr 19 to catch the train and meet us in the Blue Mountains for lunch. I liked it round, but square is better for practical purposes. I think I have a name for it too, how does "Inside the Square" sound? "Doing the Rounds" was another suggestion.<div style="text-align: center;"><img id="id_6a27_f811_35c_a630" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUOzrExGvCpmjEJLSy2bUT4QDrQfIiv5dS55fjo2rAjpkZKLG_DGz8uLbjw4RqFeJoSpxEtizgm43dy6ZO-YFLrR-f9za5lEjS0-_VArJ_RLRNjiv2psB-Ajsv9C-r5CMaM28i5hxOhyo/" alt="" title="" style="width: 532px; height: auto;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I am really enjoying sewing down the bias, and it's going on much better than I anticipated.
