I love half square triangles

I started cutting this morning and this is how far I got with my blocks by lunchtime. Half square triangles are so much quicker than hand piecing!

I made a little mistake calculating my fabric and I'm two blocks short, so I'll have to put it aside for now.......not sure how that happened. All I need is two 8" squares grrrrr.

My SIL's birthday is in August so I'm really happy with my progress. The next question will be dark thread on the light zigzags or light thread on the dark zigzags? Given time constraints I think I'll quilt with perle.

Hope you find time for some sneaky stitches this week.

  1. Looking good, great choice of fabrics...I think perle thread will be perfect, whichever way you go light or dark...

  2. Oooh, just beautiful! No matter what you decide, it will be gorgeous when complete.

  3. The quilt is looking stunning. I'm sure it will be well received. Is the fabric Little Black Dress? As for the quilting - six of one, half a dozen of the other. I think I would lean towards dark. Either way will look good. How do you intend to quilt it? Maybe you could use both, in separate areas?

  7. Don't think that I have any of those fabrics, but the photo wasn't clear. Is there a brown with white spots? Looking good but there is one block that has to be rotated.

  8. I didn't notice the one block that needs to be rotated until I read Elyte's comment and went back to look at the picture! Love the fabric you used... what a wonderful gift this will be!

  12. Sorry to be a party pooper (cos the top looks great) but there is one block lying in the wrong direction in the top RH corner...thats the benefit of taking photos I think, you can see mistakes for some reason better on a photo. The colour combo is great and I think light thread on dark always looks great. I love nothing better then getting up early and sewing in my pjs too...especially in the winter!

  13. Lovely Susan - reminds me of some of the antique Dutch quilts that I love. Glad to see I am not the only one making minor miscalculations. If you are short of fabric I might be able to help you out - would hate to see it not finished...

  17. Lovely colours you chose and that is one of my favourite patterns too. I finally finished my blue and white quilt of the same pattern. I normally machine quilt one that size in one day, but this one took me several days as I had to pivot ~every 3 inches or so and move the whole quilt..so tiring!!, but the end result is pretty. xx debbie

  21. You did all that in a morning! Now I know I'm slow. Love the quilt. It's so frustrating to be short by just two blocks. Looking forward to seeing you quilt this one...
