A new mini

Irish Circles has had to wait this week, because this little hexie mini just wanted to be finished. I think I say this with every finish, but this one is my favourite!

I wasn't too sure where I was going when I started, but I love where it has ended. Wish I had enough Antique Fair to make a large scale one, as the fabrics really appeal to me. I was inspired by a mini I saw at Pot Pourri Cottage in Newcastle last year, although it was made with 1/4" hexies, and this one uses 3/8" hexies.........such a huge difference :)  It measures 15 1/2" square. I am hoping my men let me drop into Pot Pourri Cottage when we are in Newcastle this weekend for the football.

Now that I've discovered I can knit in the car I'm hoping to get a lot of my next cowl done on the way over. I definitely need more cowls and more quilts in this cold winter weather we're having. We have no snow on the ground but I did catch some snowflakes at 5.30am this morning (hubby kindly woke me up to see it since I've never been in the snow).

Have a great weekend.

  6. A beautiful finish! Those are small hexies - I'm pleased you mentioned their size as it's hard to tell from the photo. I've been to the snow (many years ago) but have never seen it falling.

  8. What a dear hexie mini - I can see why the fabrics appeal to you - so gentle. Are you taking a stadium quilt along to keep you warm during the game?? You are invited to visit Wisconsin anytime:-) our snow stays on the ground from November to April with frequent snow showers sometimes into May. It starts losing its charm in January. But I do remember the magic of the first snowfall....happy stitching!!

  9. Beautiful - I can see why you like it. Did you applique the pieced hexies onto your background/border fabric? And good for hubby for sharing the first snow with you. We live in a land of snow during the winter months, and it is really beautiful, but that first snowfall or two each year always seems particularly special. I can't imagine not having seen snow before now!

  17. Your mini is lovely. Hope you were warm at the football. Can't wait to see what you purchased from Pot Pourri Cottage, it's a lovely store. Looking forward to seeing the progress on your cowl. Well done on your newly acquired skill of 'car knitting'. Maybe it will develop into 'car stitching'?

  24. Such a pretty quilt. were you able to see the snowflake pattern when you were "collecting" the snow?? I could the one and only time I've been in "falling" snow it was exquisite. A long trip demands something to keep you busy.
