Pin cushion finish

I haven't had much time for sewing lately. It's unusual for me, I just don't feel myself if I don't sew a few stitches every day. Anyway, I finally sat down to sew last night and decided to finish my linen pin cushion. It was already stuffed so I didn't need to open my new giant bag of walnut shells, they will have to wait for next time. I got lots of good thread ideas on my original post and decided to go with white around the Dresden.

And because I've decided I like double sided pincushions, I made a pentagon ring for the other side. One For A Wish suggested trying navy thread, and I think it looks good. I added some more navy around the sides because it looked a bit plain.

It's not my favourite pin cushion but it was an interesting experiment. I think it looks rather good on my freshly mown Spring lawn. So now it's back to my hand quilting.....I feel like it will take forever to finish.

  1. It might have been an experiment but it has turned out really... really pretty Susan. I loved the Dresden front ... then I saw the back and loved that too. If it were mine I'd be having problems deciding which side is 'up'. Have a lovely time hand quilting.....xxx

  11. I'd say your experiment worked out will. Too bad you couldn't open up that bag of walnut shells. Next time.

  19. Very sweet pin cushion--love that blue stitching! Good luck getting through the 'I'm-not-getting-anywhere hand quilting stage'. Thankfully it doesn't usually last forever.:)

  20. Your pincushion looks really well. I like the blue quilting, it gives an extra to it.
I also like your red DJ. I can imagine why you don't make all the blocks. Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking when I started my DJ. It is so much work. But then there comes the inspiration of my quilting Bee and that really helps a lot.

  22. I love it.... do you use a paper template or a ruler template for your dresden??? I have tried both and not had much success this year.
