Quilting

I love Autumn for so many reasons, a main one being that it's cool enough to quilt again. I made a small start on my plus quilt a couple of weeks ago, but really got into it this weekend. Big stitches in straight lines really come together quickly.

I was disappointed with the cheap Spotlight fabric I used on this one, but quilting is making it softer. The simplicity of this design and colour palette is quite relaxing after tiny clamshells and DJ pieces. The greys are not coming out right in this light, but you get the idea.

And there's a bonus, I love the back as much as the front. I don't usually think too much about how my quilting looks on the back as long as it goes through the three layers and holds everything together. But white quilting on dark backing fabric hides absolutely nothing.

We have been tidying up my Dad's shed, and I was lucky to bring home two sets of Singer sewing machine drawers. One set will stay whole, but I think these drawers make a great place on my desk for my DJ fabrics. So much prettier than just in piles.

Sitting here in my sewing room wishing I could sew all week....but alas....back to work tomorrow. Hope you find some time for a sneaky sew this week.

A little finish

I finished sewing down the binding on this little baby at Nundle. I love how it turned out, especially the texture of the quilting. Thank you Elyte for the charm squares that were my inspiration. 11"" x 9".

As if GDITC wasn't enough fun, I arrived home to my 2014 blog book. I always think twice before ordering it, and I'm always so glad that I did. I know I can always see my blog online........but it's so nice to sit down with a book.

No progress at all on the GDITC project, but a little cross stitch on the side.

Its a beautiful autumn day here today, I think it's my favourite season.

Happy stitching,

GDITC

Home from a wonderful weekend in Nundle. I was pretty slack taking photos, but everyone else wasn't so I'm sure you will see plenty of pics on other blogs. Lynette Anderson was a warm and friendly tutor. The project was a table topper - using stitchery and piecing. I'm happy with the progress I made, but the highlight of the weekend was seeing so many old friends and meeting new ones.

I was pretty slack when it came to shopping too! Stocked up on some basic supplies and some cream and blue fabric. Here they are with the gorgeous project pouch made by Teresa that I was lucky to get in the GDITC swap. Some of Kate's pickles from Fiona in the bloggers swap too. Note the TWO superbobs of red. I seem to have trouble finding these in dark red so I was happy to find one at Kerry's, and Lynda generously donated one of hers. Sometimes it's the littlest things that make us happy. Cheryll also gave me a nifty wood turned tool to save fingers when pin basting, that will be very handy. Thanks girls.

With Jenny and Lea, and our creative mess.

Dawnie got my GDITC swap gift.

All booked in for GDITC 2016 with Anni Downs.....and more than ready for an afternoon nap now.

On the road to Nundle

Packed and ready to go to Girls Day in the Country with Lynnette Anderson at Nundle. Although my husband thinks it looks more like girls week in the country!

Have a great weekend everyone.

21 Again

Well not quite........but it is was our 21st wedding anniversary today. I've had a lovely day with my gorgeous hubby, and we went out for dinner tonight. Not quite as fresh faced as in 1994, but still very happy.

And some DJ love.....

Happy stitching,

Bunnies and brioche

I started cleaning up my sewing room AGAIN on Friday night but didn't get very far. I came across this Rosalie Quinlan bunny kit that I bought at the craft show last year. He was very quick to whip up, a nice easy project to start the weekend.

Yesterday we tried our hand at making brioche. Very yummy indeed and not too difficult to make.

And two swap gifts made and wrapped for GDITC.

Today I planned to be sewing by midday.....and I still haven't started. I hope you've had a lovely weekend and found some time to sew and relax.

Happy stitching,

Midweek DJ

A new favourite DJ block. Prepping multiple blocks at a time is definitely keeping the momentum going on this project.

A special commission sewing a badge on for hubby, who is off on a boys version of retreat this weekend.......motor bike riding of course.

The excitement is building......only two weeks until I head off to Girls Day in the Country at Nundle.

Birthdays

This week has been a busy week for birthdays, and not so much sewing. Mr 17 turned 18 and Mr 15 turned 16. I am wondering where on earth all those years have gone. I am so proud of the wonderful young men they are becoming. That's Mr almost 14 on the left, and my dear Mr Thimblestitch on the right.

It's the first day of autumn, but the weather is still summery. Too hot for quilting, so working on my baby clamshells and some cross stitch.
