Last day of winter

Today is the last day of winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and I must say it has ended beautifully for me! A very rainy and overcast day off work, with not a lot of housework needing to be done. I love miserable wintery weather! Today, I've spent the afternoon knitting, and sewing a few hexagons together, and thinking about getting back to my hand quilting.

The sock you can see here is number two of the Petty Harbour sock, and I am very keen to have it finished so I can wear them. The pattern makes these socks even cosier. I am more than a little sock obsessed at the moment.

I did a check on some works in progress over the weekend. The bunny hexagons are coming along nicely, nearly time to start sewing I think.

Even the foxes came out to play. I have all the remaining fox pieces cut and ready to sew, they've been like that for over a year...........I just dread sitting at the machine for so long. I just need to make a date and get on with it (don't I Hilda?).

And to finish off, a photo of our sweet girl..........still going strong twelve months after a grim diagnosis from the vet (and yes, she does have four legs hidden in that bean bag).

Happy Spring (or Autumn) for tomorrow.
Susan x

  1. More excellent stitching progress from Australia. It is making me look forward to the Winter here in the UK, hoping that I can get as much stitching done.

  2. Ahh, yes, guilt-free sewing/crafting! You can get those foxes sewn together a little at a time. Lately, that's how I sew at the machine and miraculously, everything gets finished. I just leave it sitting there and when I pass by and have an extra minute, I sew a seam or two, then move on. Our summer is winding down, here. Have to be outside making the most of what's left! Love those socks! XO

  8. Wintery days are just made for quilting (and knitting) - and a good chance to review WIPs. Can't wait to see more of the quilting. I laughed at the machine piecing mention - yes - make a day and you'll feel so much better after LOL! Those foxes are so lovely - well worth a finish! Sweet puppy pic :)

  9. I too love miserable weather, and am looking forward to some that isn't hot & miserable. Heat is more miserable to me. Love your sock pattern. I am sock obsessed too, except from the toe up variety. The foot can be fitted very well with this method. Cute dog! Enjoy him as long as possible.

  18. Such a sweet face your little lady has - sure know what it is like to to have worries about fur companions - hoping these days are good for her. I wish our winters were as brief as yours...here you are ready to welcome spring as we prepare for 7 months of ups and downs. It does mean more stitching time though! The foxes are so cute & love your new socks. Enjoy some hand quilting time.
