Odds and ends

Before patchwork I used to do a lot of cross stitch. I've been thinking about trying some more for a while now and thanks to a post by Mel I was tipped over the edge this week. I followed her link to Marijke's blog to find some very sweet free patterns. I didn't have any linen so just used what I had on hand and these are the results.

And now I've got that out of my system I can get back to what I was doing! I'm too lazy for counted cross stitch these days.
It has actually been cool enough this week to do some quilting. I thought I had finished my Floral Beauty but it really needs a bit more quilting on the triangle border to keep it all together.

We had a rather bad day on Wednesday when our poor little dog was attacked by a couple of Staffy's when we were walking at the river. None of the dogs were on leads, so I have learned my lesson......no more freedom for Myf! She had to spend the night at the vets and is still limping around, but should make a full recovery. It was a very scary experience for us all.

Hope you're having a great Australia Day long weekend. We celebrated with yummy lamington cakes.

  1. That was quite funny Susan, it didn't take long to get the cross stitch out of your system! It is very pretty. Good to see Floral Beauty again, getting closer to the end.
Hope your dog recovers soon. That must have been a frightening experience. Were the Staffy's off their leashes?

  2. Cute, cute cross stitch, pity you won't be pursuing this in the near future. Sorry to hear about your run in with the staffy dogs, very scary. Hope Myf gets well soon. Can't wait to see your Floral Beauty finished, hand quilting is not something a 'lazy person' would ever do :)

  7. your little cross stitches look great, I find it's a nice change from stitching as long as it isn't too big, I especially like the one colour designs too.
can't wait to see your floral beauty totally finished.

  9. Your cross stitch look lovely. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt. It is sad that the owners of the Staffys don't take better care of them - two members of my family have them and they have been trained well and are restrained whenever they are out of their yard - and they have converted me from disliking them to liking them!! - I am pleased that Myf is recovering well - you and she is very fortunate that she was not seriously injured.

  10. Your progress is lovely. I agree with creations.1 above. I am a staffy owner and I have trained my dog and he is always on a lead in public. I hate hearing when staffies end up in the wrong hands, because they are beautiful natured dogs and my son (9) has grown up with my male staffy who is now 14 and an old man. I would never own another breed now.
I hope your dog recovers soon.

  15. Yummo, what great cakes! I have only ever made square lamingtons, do you make this in a muffin tin? I love the look of cross stitch, but have not done any for years, my only regret is I never made one of those gorgeous old fashion samplers - might have to buy one one day instead! Love your quilting, very even!

  18. I feel like that about cross stitch too - I resisted starting patchwork with my friend because I knew I didn't have time to do both - I still have a huge pile of cross stitches I could do...but patchwork won!
Poor Myf - how scary for you all. Your quilting looks lovely.

  24. Cross stitch remains a favorite "oldie" but "goodie" in my heart. It's relaxing as hand stitching. Your hand quilting is wonderful... so even. Hope your little dog forgets quickly about the horrible attack... how scary for everyone!

  27. What a frightening time for all of you - good news that Myf is recovering well. I used to do a lot of cross stitching too - I have Mirabilia's Sleeping Beauty and Lavender and Lace's Angel of the Sea both more than half done. Should get back to them but quilting took over. Your handquilting is so lovely.
