I think I need an intervention!

So, I spent some time in my sewing room yesterday. I was supposed to be tidying up but I got a bit sidetracked. I bought a new handbag while we were away so I thought a new little purse was in order. I just couldn't decide on a fabric combination.........and now I have eight little zipper purses and one larger pouch. Now I just have to decide which one goes in my handbag. It's a great little free tutorial at Noodlehead. Anna has lots of great patterns and tutorials.

I have signed up for Chookyblue's virtual sewing weekend at the end of May. Will I see you there?

We spent this morning at our local ANZAC service, watched the boys march with their school, and just enjoyed our beautiful park and community. So thankful for the peace and freedom we have.

Catch up

Busy times here lately, but not so much sewing unfortunately. We had a short trip to Brisbane in the school holidays. It's a beautiful city and we really enjoyed doing some sightseeing and shopping. Unfortunately not enough time to catch up with any Brisbane bloggers this time. A highlight was Teppanyaki at a Japanese restaurant.........you don't want to see a photo of me catching a bowl of rice!

It was exciting to come home to special mail. I won a giveaway on Granny Loz blog. It's even autographed by Gail herself. Thank you Loz, I plan to make something from it before Christmas!

What I have been sewing is all hexagons. Some 1/2" auditioning for a pincushion swap, and some 3/8" for a new mini. If you like miniature quilts there is a great new Facebook group called Small Quilt Lovers......lots of very nice eye candy there.

That's it for now. I have a day off and the chores are done so I'm off to contemplate the mess in my sewing room.

Hope you enjoy this ANZAC weekend, and take a moment to remember those who have sacrificed so much for us.

P.s. Can anyone recommend a good Australian supplier of Valdani perle cotton? I'm after a particular colour that I bought at the craft show last year, and of course I can't remember who from. Thanks.

DJ

I hope you're not getting tired of red and white DJ blocks. I am happy with my momentum on this project but I felt like I was further along than only 38%. Still another 104 blocks to go......and the border triangles. These are my latest blocks.

I am not done with mini quilts yet either. I have been playing with some 3/8" hexies........

Happy Saturday,

Plus one!

Happy Easter everyone. As if a few days off wasn't enough, we have also had some rainy days perfect for sewing and movie watching. So my Plus quilt is finished. I was down to using scraps of backing to get enough for the binding, and managed with about 2" to spare. It started out sunny and clear this morning, and then another lovely storm rolled in.....the perfect backdrop.

After some misgivings about the fabric, it has turned out softer with quilting. Have I mentioned before how much I love big stitch quilting? It has even found a home on someone's bed.......for now.

Next in the hoop is my nine patch swap quilt. Found a lovely soft flannel backing for it, just the right colour to complement the solid squares. Laid it all out ready to baste, and aargh, the backing wasn't quite big enough. I can only blame my own maths on this occasion. So I had a little tantrum about it and then remembered the unused nine patches.......problem solved. One strip of nine patches down the back......and not really as loose and rumpled as the basting looks. I did a lot of extra pinning in the hope that the quilting on the front will correspond with the blocks on the back. Thank you Cheryll for my WONDERFUL safety pinning tool. It got a real workout yesterday and saved my fingers.

I'm off to enjoy the last of the long weekend by putting a roast in the oven and stitch the afternoon away.

Happy stitching,
Susan x
