Odds and ends

I've been doing a little bit of finishing off. This cushion was stitched before I even started blogging, sewn together in Feb 2014, and finally stuffed last night. Better late than never!

Some lonely experimental hexies turned into a pincushion for an upcoming swap.

More leftover 3/8" hexies, these from the FiS Christmas swap in December 2013. Now a new mini waiting to be quilted. Very similar to one I made with 1/4" hexies for myself here.

And a little giveaway to finish. I won this set of smaller fabric pieces at a retreat, and they are just not colours I would use. The largest piece is 13" square, so suitable for a small project. Leave a comment and I'll draw a winner on Monday.

A little stitching

We are still enjoying our holiday. It's raining today, but the beauty of North Queensland is that it's still warm when it's raining. Today was the first day in a week that I got the iron out........but only to press this stitchery, no clothes ironing on holidays! I've also done some piecing on an Irish Circles block. Not sure if I like that purple circle now that I see it in the photo......there is a little appliqué to go on yet so I'll see how it looks.

Snorkeling on the reef was amazing, and I can thoroughly recommend it as a really memorable experience. Here I am looking glamorous in my stinger suit......everyone had to wear them even though stinger season is just about over. I felt like a ninja.

Our day at the Daintree Rainforest was also a highlight, but very glad it was only for one day......a jungle girl I am not.

Hope the Easter Bunny found you all!

Ufo's

Happy, happy, happy. It's a rainy Sunday at home. Decided to spend some of the day having a tidy up in the sewing room.......which led to unearthing some small ufo's. I don't really have too any of them, unless you include quilts in the hand quilting queue (which I don't).
First of all, this Kathy Schmitz stitchery from 2010 (the shame). Not sure I absolutely love the fabric borders I found in my stash, but it's finished except for the stuffing (and who knows how long that will take).

This poor little birdie has been sitting right next to my end of the couch, finished but for his eyes, for a couple of months.

A lone, blue hexie flower with a tiny hanger equals a tiny little quilt, just 4". Another for the wall!

We made scones for afternoon tea and a roast for dinner, so it's been a pretty good day all round.

Happy sewing.

Bits and Pieces

We have been laying low in the hot weather. It hasn't been as bad as many areas, but it has still been hot....and so horribly dry. Some days it feels like it will never rain again......our tanks are getting so low.

So we have been out and active in the mornings and in the aircon in the afternoons. I have been working on a few different things. A little set of Kathy Schmitz stitcheries.

Some more blocks for Irish Circles. I am still having trouble getting into a rhythm with this project.....but soldiering on.

Working on a UFO mini. This is a free pattern from Kathleen Tracy. I cut the pieces from my scrap tin ages ago. It just needs the borders and finishing off. In the background is a sketch for my next mini. I love the orange peel design, just not sure how small I can go.

Keep cool, or warm, depending on where you are in the world.

Happy Sunday

Peg at Happy in Quilting has inspired me to have a look at some of my orphan projects. I do have a little collection of complete but unfinished (????) stitcheries. They come in handy for short notice gifts, but mostly it's just an addiction I can't beat. I really like unrolling them and just looking.

This one really should be used for something. It's called Spring Home Pillow by Kathy Schmitz. I just can't choose a coordinating fabric.

There hasn't been a lot of stitching here this weekend. My eldest son has turned 15 - we had ten 15 year old boys for the night on Friday - and it was great. They were all very well behaved. It was a great summers night.

Today is a different story - raining - my favourite weather. Stitching, cooking and hanging out with the family today. Perfect.

Hope you're having a lovely day too.
