Hexie purse finished

Last night I finally got around to making the strap for my hexie purse. Wondering if I should have used darker red, but for now it is done.

I always keep an eye out for rabbits.....in any shape or form. Saw this one in a shop window when we were in town this morning, and my sweet hubby snuck back and bought it for me.

I'm spending the afternoon making my March set of nine patches, and prepping some more Floral Beauty blocks. I hope you have some sewing time too.

Hexie purse update

On the weekend I began sewing my hexie purse together.

I was not feeling very confident at this stage. The frame kept coming off on my first few attempts.....I thought I had the wrong size. Marina from Maisie and the boys came to my rescue with the excellent tip of basting the frame in before sewing it. It worked a treat.

Then last night I sewed it in. I ended up using DMC, as the first thread broke part way through. I also broke three needles. So it's finished except for the strap, which will have to wait until I can get the swivels. I love the look of the hexies, and that so many snippets of my favourite fabrics are in this bag. Thank you Marina for your advice and encouragement all the way through.

Now I need a new little hexie project. Maybe another purse in a different colourway........

Happy Valentines Day.......

In the mail

Today I finished sewing down the binding on my quilt for Caring with Quilts. It will be in the mail tomorrow, on it's way to brighten someone's day (I hope). I'm happy I took the time to finish it off, and whilst it's not the best quilt I have ever made, I like it more today than I ever have before. It's amazing what a bit of quilting can do to an ordinary flimsy.

My little hexies are all sewn together, and will soon become a bag. The fabric behind is what i'm using for the lining.

I think they even look pretty from the back.

So ends another wonderful weekend. Have a great week.

Completely devoted......

..........to needle turn and my Floral Beauty quilt. Not only am I loving this project, but I'm thinking about what needle turn to work on next. These are my latest blocks.

And some more little hexies for my bag.

I am a firm believer that good service should always be recognised. If you need a little retail therapy pop over to Kylie at Red Raspberry Quilts........she even has an Australia Day sale on at the moment. Kylie was ever so helpful with some thread queries last week, and my purchase arrived super fast and ready for weekend stitching.

I missed FNSI last night, but hope to make it up over the long weekend.
Happy Australia Day.

Works in progress

I was inspired by May Britt'spost about what projects she is working on this year. I'm sure there will be new projects and fabrics to catch my eye, but these projects are what I'm working on for now.

Finish quilting In Full Bloom before GDITC in March.

Make a start on The Simple Life fabric pack I got for Christmas.

Finish sewing down hexie border and quilt my Hexagon Star......by the end of the year.

Make a quilt for my nephew's 18th in August. Best get a move on with this one.

Floral Beauty. Loving it, and scared of all the needleturn, at the same time.

New Day stitchery.....finish by Mothers Day.

Make two runners for my new coffee table and buffet......soon.
Finish my little hexie bag before GDITC.
Stay up to date with the Traditional Nine Patch Swap.
I'm thinking about starting a clamshell quilt, but might wait until GDITC with Sue Daley.

I'll stop now, or this will become a very long list of all the projects I'd like to do.

I'm off to find a cool spot to stitch the day away.......now what should I work on first?

Floral Beauty

What was I thinking?? Late last night I decided was a good time to dig out my stash and think about what fabrics to use for Floral Beauty. As much as I love red and cream, I want to include other colours in this quilt. I feel really uncertain about all the fabric choices for this quilt, so I'm just preparing a couple of blocks at a time to see how they go.

I have just started stitching the first block, and all these needle turn points will either kill me, or make me a pro. This is not going to be a fast project!

For relaxation (?????) I have started sewing the little hexies together for my bag. They just don't want to lie flat yet.

We had a very exciting trip to Bathurst on Thursday. We have been looking for new dining furniture and a coffee table for some time and found it on sale this week when we weren't really even looking. What's more, they delivered it on Friday. So the past two days have seen a BIG clean out in the kitchen/dining area.......where does all the junk come from?
It has definitely created a need for some table runners.........and perhaps some art work on the bare wall where the old hutch was.

Time to sit quietly and sew for a while I think!

Hexie love

Half inch hexie anyone?

265 of the little lovelies ready to start Brigitte Giblin's Little Hexagon Purse. I've used up a lot of French General scraps, and added some other reds and creams too, but mostly reds.

I'll be back sewing zipper bags too now that I have replenished my zipper supply. And Spotlight had 25% off zippers while I was there yesterday. Thank goodness I went there before Mr 13 went to the orthodontist!
Definitely starting to feel the Christmas spirit creeping in - six weeks to go!! I think I need to get some elves working for me.

A little gift....

Like everyone else, I am busy sewing, but not on anything that I can show.

I love patterns that are so much fun to make that I want to make multiples. This little covered notebook by Anni Downs is one such project. Out of the gift box and off to a friend.

I gave in to temptation last night and bought the downloadable pattern for Brigitte Giblins hexie bag. Now there's a dangerous development - if Hatched & Patched starts that I am in deep trouble. But I am NOT starting the bag until my SSCS is done........

On a very exciting note, there is only one week to go until I'm off to the Stitching Post Retreat at Katoomba with Ann-Marie and Sam.
Enjoying the warm Spring weather and the last of school holidays today. Hope you have a great weekend.
