On the weekend I began sewing my hexie purse together.
I was not feeling very confident at this stage. The frame kept coming off on my first few attempts.....I thought I had the wrong size. Marina from Maisie and the boys came to my rescue with the excellent tip of basting the frame in before sewing it. It worked a treat.
Then last night I sewed it in. I ended up using DMC, as the first thread broke part way through. I also broke three needles. So it's finished except for the strap, which will have to wait until I can get the swivels. I love the look of the hexies, and that so many snippets of my favourite fabrics are in this bag. Thank you Marina for your advice and encouragement all the way through.
Now I need a new little hexie project. Maybe another purse in a different colourway........
Happy Valentines Day.......

So pretty, love it in red, especially all the fussy cut pieces. Perfect finish - glad you persisted, sounds like it is tricky the first time, but OK once you conqure - or so I assume if you are game to go back for a second one!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful purse. Well done Susan. And a great tip from Marina.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Susan! Is it the brigette giblin pattern? I have started that one but have a long way to go before all the hexies are joined. Congratulations on the finish!

ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous Susan. Hugs......
ReplyDeletewow Susan this is stunning, well done on a beautiful finish.xx
ReplyDeleteJust lovely, Susan. You are way more patient than I am! Just out of interest, did you think of using Linen thread to stitch the frame in with? It is much stronger than cotton. Marina's idea of basting in is great - wish I'd thought of that when I did my Red Brolly purse a couple of years ago
ReplyDeleteSuper gorgeous and the reds are perfect for Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteThat basting tip is great, would have been helpful when I made my felt purse. The bag is GORGEOUS!! Where can I buy the pattern from? I haven't seen it anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt is really lovely Susan you have been very busy to get it finished so soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is really lovely Susan. You sure have been working quickly to get finished so soon.
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooo cute! Love your gorgeous fabrics.
ReplyDeleteBlow. Me. Away...! This purse is just amazing Susan, big pat on the back to you my friend. I hope you are happy with it, and that some swivels materialise very soon, so you can take it out and show it off!
ReplyDeleteMarina gave you some great advice, I will keep that in mind if i ever gat brave enough to use a frame like that!
Woo Hoo!
Gorgeous... gorgeous bag! Love the colours and the fussy cutting is so cute. How good is it to have your very own Hexie Bag expert on hand to help. I'd have never thought of tacking like that.... what a great tip.
ReplyDeleteThe red DMC looks great against the metal frame. Makes a real feature of the stitching. Hope you don't mind if I pinch that idea when I get down to making a bag. Great job!
Love it! Job well done I must say!
ReplyDeletewow love it
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! I think you should do another one in another colourway so I can buy that one off of you LOL
ReplyDeleteWow Susan! It's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWow Susan that is one gorgeous purse...I've never attempted anything like that before....Have a fun weekend and hope you get some stitching in xo

Gorgeous purse Susan, and such a great tip to baste it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful purse, love the colourways, so much work
ReplyDeleteOhh what a fantastic job Susan, such a gorgeous purse and in my favourite colour too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Thanks for passing on the tip. I have one, no two, of these on my to do list. Adding the frame was the bit that kept putting me off.
ReplyDeleteoh yes.... just p e r f e c t...... as per usual - gorgeous Susan
ReplyDeleteSweet purse. Perfect in reds.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I found you - sure glad though!! Love your hexie purse - wonderful colors. My own hexies are done and the bottom portion is together. Starting on the sides now and waiting for my frame to arrive from Brigitte Giblin. Thank you so much for sharing how to basted the frame prior to permanently securing it through the little thread holes. I can see where that would really help! What kind of thread did you use??
