Hmmmmm

I laid out my Irish Circles blocks at the weekend. I'm not unhappy with how it looks but I'm having second thoughts about the red bordered squares. In the original pattern they blend in more.......I'm thinking about replacing them with circles.....with the added advantage of getting to sew four more circles! I'm hoping that once the blocks are sewn together and quilted, the cream background won't look so stark.

Then I really need to go somewhere to audition fabric for the first border, just can't do that online. This is my blue block finished from the weekend. I love red most, but these blues are a close second.

I resolved my block shortage on my SIL's quilt by buying another LBD fat quarter and will use some of the back as well. Hoping it arrives on Friday so I can finish the top at FNWF. Pop over to Cheryll's to sign up.

Happy stitching.

  1. Hi Susan..... Looking at Irish Circles here with Hubby....can I make a suggestion.....How would a thin border in red look? Or the red squares one in each corner? Keen to see what you decide!

  2. Your blocks are looking fabulous! I really like the blocks with the red borders as they offer a point of difference and interest to the quilt - IMHO. I agree that one in each corner would look great. Taking photos, as you gave done, helps with the decision making, good luck!

  4. I like the red square blocks and I like them where they are...just had to say that to throw more confusion into it....maybe a small read border then a deeper cream...?
Love the look of this quilt.

  6. I love the look of your quilt and I think that the red square blocks look great. I think that they add interest by breaking up the circles but at the same time allowing the viewer to take a closer look at how different each circle is. But I know from experience that you should change it if you are not in love with it as it will always jump out at you. Good luck with your decision

  9. Love this so much! I have a hard time buying important fabrics online too--just can't 'see' them as well as I can in person.

  10. Wow..... that quilt is fabulous! I think the red squares are great right where they are. They frame the central circle well and also draw attention to all the lovely small circles that surround them... that's just my opinion and my opinion is often suspect! ;o) The blue block is gorgeous by the way.

  17. Such lovely blocks and they look great together... at the end of the day I know the quilt will look lovely but you need to make it how you love it best .... I also can't audition online.. and it's a great reason to go into a pretty shop!

  18. Hi Susan - it is simply stunning and I actually love the blocks against the cream. You need to be happy with the squares but I see no problem with the shape...maybe the wide red on the squares could be toned down/narrowed if that is the problem? It is going to be superb whatever you do!

  21. Hi Susan, your quilt is just amazing, so beautiful. I think you need to go with your gut feeling, and if those squares are going to bother you, change them, I think it is lovely as it is, but you have to be happy with the end result. If you do decide to change them, maybe a softer, paler red? That said, it really is beatiful as it is. No help at all, me lol x

  25. I like the quirkiness of the red blocks that aren't circles. On that thought I think they'd look nice placed more randomly but that's just me. :)

  26. Don't do anything rash with those red squares they may yet make it into the quilt.
Enjoy your sewing tonight and hope that fabric arrives.
