Weekend stitching

I finished my cross stitch last week and I'm so happy with how it turned out. Love working with the variegated thread. I liked it so much that I have started the other version of the pattern in a variegated blue thread.

And always some more DJ blocks.

After some recent dramas at work I'm excited to tell you that I got a promotion......some very challenging times ahead I think. To those who knew, thank you for your encouragement and support. X

Have a great week.

Plus Quilt top

It didn't take very long to sew it together either. I think I like it, it's just so different to anything I usually make.

I think I'll go back to my hand piecing and little clamshells tonight, I need something more traditional.

Hope you have a great week.

Something new

Channelling my inner modernist today. I have been drooling over plus quilts on a few different blogs, particularly this one by Karen at Pieces of Contentment, and this at Crafty Blossom. So beautifully simple and elegant.

So after a little bit of maths and sketching I decided to make my own. I'm not sure of the destination for this quilt, so I didn't want to spend too much. I found a nice grey shot cotton at Spotlight yesterday, which unfortunately didn't feel or look as nice after I washed it, but I soldiered on. The cutting out has taken me less than an hour......

I think it will look better sewn together, so I'm off to spend some quality time with my machine.

Happy Sunday stitching,

Salvage project

Woodworking may not have been the best term to use in my last post. Restoration or salvage would have been better. I have been considering a quilt ladder for years......and it came up again last week when I saw one for sale locally. Unfortunately, I don't like paying city prices for my trash and treasure, so I went home to consider the poor, falling apart wooden ladder that I bought years ago and never did anything with. It was in pieces and has been moving closer to firewood every winter.

I thought it was too far gone, but hubby suggested giving it a go. After quite a lot of sanding, some gluing and new nails yesterday, here it is in all its glory. I had fully intended to stain it, but I'm quite partial to silvered timber. I think I will leave it as is for now, and see if I'm motivated to stain it in the future. I was also pretty worried about my quilts getting stained over time, depending on what finish I used. There is a little placemat under each quilt to protect it. I'd be interested in your opinion whether to leave it or stain it a darker colour.

Old Ted also had to be accommodated since he used to sit on the chair that was in this spot.

FNWF

I was hoping to start a new project for FNWF, but alas, the postie did not deliver........hopefully my parcel will come on Monday. Instead I worked on some DJ blocks that I had prepared a while ago, and the start of a new mini. I really think I need to add some more medium tones.

I received some beautiful French General Rue Indienne charms from lovely Elyte. I could have just added them to my stash but decided it would be nicer to make a special project. So after some thought, out came my 1" clamshells. You may remember my clamshell purse here. They are small but very pretty when finished.

Today I have been busy on a woodwork project.........sewing related of course. Hope to have something to show by the end of the weekend.

Happy stitching,

And the winner is.....

My husband has randomly generated number 18, so congratulations to Annette of Jindiscottage. You have won the little bundle of green fabrics which I unearthed in my weekend cleanup. Send me your address and I will pop it in the mail.

I haven't sewn any DJ blocks for a while, but here is where I'm up to. Still a long way to go.

I hope your week has started well.
