I've gone back a couple of rounds and added a ring of appliqued diamonds. I had orinally planned a straight 1/2" ring, but I like the diamonds much better, and found the fabric in my stash!
Hmmmm, really need to make a decision about the very centre too.
I'm almost finished another round, and spent an evening making bias binding to start appliqueing over the weekend. It took me quite a while to make it, and I didn't really enjoy the time at the machine, but it looks rather lovely now it's ready. I take my hat off to the machine sewing enthusiasts, I don't have the temperament for it!
I'm very excited because I'm finally going to the Springwood Quilt Show this weekend. I have been trying to get there for years, and nows my chance. I do have to drop my son back to Uni in Sydney first, but I'm sure there will be time on the way home.
Hope you have a good weekend planned too.

Its just beautiful Susan! I love how you put that....I don't have the temperament for it either lol! Enjoy the quilt show and applying all that gorgeous bias binding x

How big of an area is your center? I keep thinking of those marvelous mini hexies you did recently.
ReplyDeleteYards of lovely bias binding to work with! Having started out 30+ years ago as strictly a machine person I do enjoy time at the Bernina. But since discovering the joys and peacefulness of hand work both techniques make me happy and offer variety Happy stitching on your new adventure!
The addition looks fabulous. Have a wonderful time at the quilt show and you might find your inspiration for your centre there.
ReplyDeleteDear Susan,
ReplyDeleteYour Quilt is so pretty, just love the design and your colors and how much of yourself you put in it. Lovely work.
Greetings,
Sylvia
What a wonderful new start. Your scrappy bias vines are so fun. I need to remember that great idea!
ReplyDeleteThe diamonds are wonderful looking! Great addition.:)
ReplyDeleteI am so fascinated watching your design process on this quilt. The diamonds are a good addition. Pretty fabrics in the bias. Looking great so far!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the diamonds you have added! Making bias (well cutting it) is not my favorite job either! Enjoy the fun applique now you are at the exciting part of this task.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is coming along so nicely and now I am guessing there will be some bias action? What a lovely roll of bias - can't wait to see what you do with it! I share your feeling about machine sewing - necessary at times but not really enjoyable for me either. Enjoy the Show - I went a couple of years ago and it was lovely - great atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteoh it's looking beautiful... have fun at the show....

It's looking lovely... What about a little hexie flower in the centre?

ReplyDeleteThe diamonds look fantastic, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThat that bias looks stunning can't wait for it to unravel!
Happy stitching and enjoy the show
Oh and have a great time at Springwood... Very envious.....
ReplyDeleteThat IS a lot of bias...and a lot of pressing it!!
ReplyDeleteYou knew taking your son back and forth woud have benfits!!
Lovely design. I am heading to Springwood show tomorrow with Sandy and some others. Might bump into you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying watching your quilt evolve. It's looking lovely. On which day are going to the Springwood Quilt Show? Well be there on Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYour new quilt is coming along so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove that pieced binding, it looks very pretty.
The diamonds look great, love your fabrics, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe diamonds are far more interesting that a straight half-inch circle. They look great!
ReplyDeleteI can also see the maths involved. It is not easy to get a circle of diamonds so neat and to finish the loop with a whole diamond (not a weird fragment of one). Beautifully done.
I'm so loving "your quilt"...love the pieced applique binding, that looks very interesting. Lucky you going to Springwood, was it fabulous? I generally get a raffle ticket when I'm up in January and that's as close as I get, one day I'd love to be able to be in the Mountains at the right time.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt so far is beautiful! And that bias looks so much fun in the scrappy style. Hope you had a fun time at the show - it would have eased the pain from dropping your son off!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in your quilt and that binding is going to look delicious on it. I also prefer hand piecing and quilting to machine but sometimes we just have to do it. I have two little quilts ready for binding and am putting it off mainly because my machine tends to get buried between uses.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your quilt, Susan. That bias will be all worth it once it's on your quilt.
ReplyDeleteJust awesome Susan! Hope you had a great time at the Show.....it liked really good on the net!
