Limping along

I have decided to stop feeling bad about not blogging, and just be happy to do a post when I can. Life is busy!

Since my last post I've had a wonderful sewing weekend at Nundle........despite the four hour power and Internet blackout. Time spent with stitching friends is always good. Much to their horror, I knitted all weekend. I decided to try a shawl, and whilst it's finished, I'm not happy with the colour or how it hangs. I've thrown it to the back of the cupboard for now. I did finish some socks and another little stocking.

After a slow start, I'm happy to report that my SSCS is on the sleigh headed to its cold destination. The cute little reindeer is staying with me though.

And I've started quilting this little pentagon mini. It was loosely based on something I saw at the Sydney craft show last year (or the year before?) and has sat as a flimsy waiting for something more to happen. It hasn't turned out quite as I envisioned but it has reached the point where it has to be finished or thrown. I think it will make a good portable sewing project for my flight in ju st 3.5 weeks. It's so hot that I've changed my winter wardrobe over to summer, and packed for my cold Christmas already.......just have to add the smalls!

I am so addicted to sock knitting that I can't see a day where I won't have a pair underway. So portable, and I absolutely love the brain buzz of working out a new pattern. I accidentally purchased a skein of wool that wasn't big enough for full socks, but just enough for ankle socks..........and this is the result. I was going to gift them but not sure if I can.......

I'm having a delicious day off today. Planning to get the chores done as soon as possible so I can spend the afternoon flitting between projects!

Happy stitching,
Susan x

  4. Oh, socks! I'd love to be able to learn how to knit socks. I've only tried once, and it was a bust, but I know I'll try again. I rather like your little pentagon quilt mini! As far as blogging goes, post when the spirit strikes! If it becomes stressful, it's not fun. And if it's not fun, you'll stop altogether! Can't have that! XO

  6. That's right - you had mentioned your upcoming trip - you must be getting very excited! Winter has definitely arrived after one of the most warm and gentle falls ever...out come the hats, scarves and gloves... your socks would be right at home. Love the cheery reds that are having quilting added. Everyday life gets in the way of blogging often - it always amazes me that some can do a new post every few days...you do what you can and I always look forward to catching up on your projects!

  10. I'm just visiting your blog for the first time ....you know how you can wander to various blogs from sidebars lol ....... well having a love of knitting you grabbed my attention! What a shame about the shawl, but if it's the one in the photo perhaps consider adding (sewing) some beading to it to give the colour a change up/interest and the extra weight from the beads may change how it drapes depending on the bead placement. Just a thought - enjoy your flight to wherever it is taking you

  11. Hi Susan, the socks look great, well done! Even though I don't knit, I can understand how making them could be addictive!

  12. OK wool ankle socks...its a concept I cannot quite get my head around! I guess that your boys are too big for a pair of kids socks instead? Love, love the pentagon mini. Just thinking how much better mini projects look when you have small print fabrics - a good excuse for me to buy more fabric! Looking forward to seeing it quilted. Winter Christmas? OK where are you going?

  14. Love your hand work, the mini pentagons are very cute! I hope you enjoy your flight, where are you heading for Christmas? That is a shame about your shawl after you have done all that work. Ankle socks sound ok to me!! Good for you to be knitting, the last retreat I went to some knitted some sewed, some did both.

  15. I have thought about taking just knitting on retreat. It is so portable.
What a shame about the shawl. I hope the air clears and it can come out of the cupboard soon. It looks marvellously delicate.
