A new hobby

I've been a bit slack in the sewing department, but I'm always busy cooking something. My DH gave me a pasta maker for Christmas. We have discovered that fresh pasta is scrumptious.
Here are the sheets drying out before I turn them into tagliolini.

Little tagliolini ready to cook with prawns, basil and chilli tonight. And yes, they are on the drying rack outside the back door.

On a sewing note, what sort of thread do you use for appliqué and EPP?

  1. I love home made pasta... haven't been doing it for too long and I have never made lots like you to dry a bit... mine always looks a lot more tatty than that... i wonder what I am doing different?
As far as thread... I haven't done much EPP.. for applique by hand I use DMC.. and by machine any of the nice machine threads but I like buttonhole stitch using the glossy embroidery threads...

  2. yummmmm it looks delicious.
For my swan lake I have been using gutermann silk thread, I also use dmc cottons for general applique. For my hexies I have used a variety, sometimes whatever thread that I have that will suit colour wise. Probably not following the rules with my choices but I have never learnt the rules!

  3. Yum that pasta looks delicious. For needle turn appliqué & EPP I use Bottom Line thread - I have some packets is the Patchwork with Busyfingers super bobs in my shop which I really like as there is amid of shades in each pack. For blanket stitch appliqué I use DMC or Cosmo

  4. Love pasta.
For applique and EPP I use Yli silk thread, 100 wt. If I don`t have the colour in that I use Aurifil, 50 wt instead.

  5. The pasta making looks like fun ... but think I will stick to my hexi's. I prefer to use YLI Select with a size 11 Milner Needle. I love to tack my little hexi's and use YLI for this also ... a reel is going along way and the neutral one's blend well.
    Happy stitching, P

  9. Time well spent I say, the menu sounds (and looks) delicious. I have a machine in my cupboard that I have never used, but if you think I could do it, I should give it a try.
For applique I generally use YLI silk thread in a neutral colour.
    Enjoy your delicious dinner.

  10. What a great idea Susan to use the clothes airer for a drying rack...love it! I've been a bit slack with my pasta maker and not made any since we moved here...you have inspired me to do it but I will have to make a gluten free version.
For hand applique I use DMC...today I did some machine applique and used matching thread. Oh derrrrrr, what is EPP?

  11. We broke our pasta maker the first time we used it! For applique (I only do it by hand) I use DMC threads and for EPP (and needle turn) I use Superior Threads by Libby Lehman - color 619 as it seems to blends in with everything :)

  12. Right.... I'll tell you what threads I use if you invite me to dinner! My mouth is watering at the thought of your pasta with prawns, basil and chilli and I'm stuck with a bowl of porridge (it is breakfast time here)!
OK.... I do mostly needleturn and for that I love YLI silk threads. I've collected a few colours but always have a range of neutrals on hand. EPP... it's either the YLI silks or Superior Threads Bottom Line. I like thinner threads. Hand blanket stitch... DMC cottons. Now... about that dinner invitation......;o)

  15. That pasta looks brilliant. I too have a machine in my cupboard - never used. (sigh) You pasta inspires me to bring it out and try it.
For applique I always now use YLI silk #100. Love it! For EPP I've recenly used Superior Threads Masterpiece but only have bobbins full of it. I mostly just use whatever I have on hand that matches in colour. Think I will probably purchase some Superior Bottom Line to try soon.

  16. I use Daruma silk thread for hand needle turn, if I don't have any matching colours I'll use Gutterman cotton. For machine button hole or raw edge applique I use Gutterman cotton in a matching colour. For hand piecing I use grey Gutterman cotton.
