I think you will agree that this quilt is something quite different for me. I was inspired by the lovely Ros at Bloom, such great design and fabrics. Ros has put a tutorial on her blog for this quilt, made using a slightly different method, and in a larger bed size. If you haven't already, you should really check out her blog. Thanks for the inspiration Ros.
Since I am usually a hand stitcher, I was amazed by how quickly the blocks came together in one evening using the machine. I love half square triangles, they are so versatile. Just have to sew them all together now. I think I'll quilt with white perle in the white areas......open to suggestions.
I am well ahead of schedule on this one as Laura's birthday isn't until December. More troubling is the quilt for her mothers special birthday in August.........any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Looking forward to a day of stitching with the Cassilis Quilters tomorrow.
Susan x
Yes Susan very different for you....the blues in this reminded me of the ocean! Have fun at Cassilus tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteSure is different for your tastes! Looks lovely and modern and great pattern too! Quilting with the perle would be a lovely effect!
ReplyDeleteLooks great though! Special quilts are lots of pressure in the decision making process....what kind of things does she like?
ReplyDeleteWow I love this Susan the colours are gorgeous, she will love this quilt for sure.xx
ReplyDeleteFor such an easy block it makes a spectacular quilt doesn't it! Lovely colour choice and is sure to be a winner. Perle sounds wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteGosh that was quick!! Love the colours you are using. Sometimes its nice to make something that is a relatively quick finish.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, love the colour combo. I always love a classic nine patch (for August), but you know the reciprient better then me + how you want to spend your time for the next three months!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic, great colours. I love machine piecing at the moment - think it suits my frame of mind and available time better just now. Perle quilting will suit it very well. Ros's tutorial is great.
ReplyDeleteIt's so effective... be carefull... you may get converted to quick machine quilts????? I wouldn't know where to start with hand quilting but I am confident you will get that lightbulb inspiration for it.. and the next quilt....
ReplyDeleteHugz
I love my comfort fabrics but do enjoy straying outside the square from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is looking lovely, young and fresh. I hope she doesn't read your blog.
Enjoy your Friday.
The colours look great and quilted with perle cotton sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeletewow coming together beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWow.... I love it Susan. The colours and fabrics with that fresh white back ground are gorgeous. Your quilting with perle cotton will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteYes very different fabric choices for you. I like it, so fresh, your niece will love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat, no red! I actually love blue and green together and the white makes it very fresh. It's difficult to recommend a quilt without knowing the recipient but if you're pressed for time how about a bag or framed stitchery?
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I'm sure Laura will love it. Have a great day tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be too wet for your drive.
ReplyDeleteA very fun combination of colors for you! I got into some crunch time myself with an overdue gift and used a Moda layer cake which really helped. Now have another Moda jelly roll and have ordered a few fat quarters to go with it - found a free pattern online called Boxing Day which hopefully will go quickly. I love scrappy quilts so much but sometimes having a coordinated packet of fabrics really comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool quilt that will be! And a great stash buster as well- I might just have to keep this one in mind when my bins overflow with fabrics....
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing....and Ros is so talented...
ReplyDeleteLove the layout and colours in this one.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely day out stitching today :)
I agree - it is gorgeous - and a little different too. I can see it would be a great quilt to make in a variety of situations...thanks for the link
ReplyDeleteLooking gorgeous Susan! Really great fabrics. 'Tis a nice simple pattern for Amy Butler's big and bold prints. Just a bit different to your tiny, tiny hexies!
