My Dear Jane progress

Some inspiration from Carla and an afternoon in the air conditioning has seen some great and unexpected progress on My Dear Jane over the weekEnd. I have quit at 81 blocks, I just knew I wouldn't finish all the piecing and I am at peace with my decision.

So a lap size DJ it will be. Here is Myf assisting with block layout.

These are the blocks all joined together.......I even used the sewing machine which is very unusual for me. I must admit that my joins aren't quite as tidy as they would be if I had hand sewn them, but I just wanted this done.

I'm feeling quite invigorated to look at the border triangles now. As with the blocks, I'm just going to select the ones I want to make.

The cool change is blowing in this afternoon, and there is a hint of rain in the air........very happy.

  3. Just beautiful. It will be a stunning quilt as it is and the last thing you want is for it to become a chore and not get finished. I'm looking forward to seeing your border progress. Isn't it lovely to have cooler, damp weather. Enjoy it while you can.

  10. I have seen the original quilt in the states last year, you would not even recognize the quilt! I would not worry too much about joints that don't fit exactly! In the Original you will find blocks with no sashing because they were to big, or with an extra sashing to make a small block larger. Enjoy your cooler weather. It is rather weird in Holland too, no winter what so ever and way to warm!

  11. Your lap size DJ is still a major achievement. Look at all the work in all of those blocks. You will get lots of use with a lap sized quilt. Is Myf laying claim to this one?

  15. Your red and white DJ blocks are beautiful. Its a wonderful accomplishment. Sometimes a quilt just lets you know when it's time to stop. Merry Christmas Glad the weather is cooling off a bit for you. We've been seeing reports here in the states of the many wildfires across Australia.

  20. Your DJ is wonderful - sometimes you just know when a quilt feels right and you are happy with it. How could we quilt without assistants? Our 3 shelties love to find napping spots nearby - sometimes right in the fabric closet, sometimes by the foot control of my machine or under the ironing board....
Glad you have caught a cooler break from the heat. This Christmas will be the first non-white is many years...very strange.
