Sewing room addition

So my son went back to Uni in Sydney on Tuesday. He would have been happy to catch the train, but I offered to drive, as I had an ulterior motive. After many years in the planning I bought some new storage for my sewing room. I've been thinking about this for a long time, and now it's here. Would you believe that I walked through IKEA and ONLY bought what I intended to, and nothing else?

It was good to have a clean out as I went. Hoping to make some space for a design wall too......

It was also very exciting to finally visit The Crewel Gobelin. I couldn't help buying a new cross stitch pattern and some lovely dark blue grey thread. Great to meet some fellow stitchers while I was there too.

Thank you for your kind words about my wasp stings. When I did the post on Friday I was being optimistic. By Saturday my whole left arm and hand had swollen so much that I couldn't do anything, let alone sew. Just about back to normal now though thank goodness, so back to some hand quilting.

Another little finish

This little mini was almost finished at my Two Rives retreat, it only needed the binding sewn on. Just 11" x 12", and made with 1/4" hexies. It was inspired  by a quilt I saw at the Sydney Craft show last year, you can read about it here. It wasn't until I added this photo that I noticed how much that very dark flower stands out, too late to do anything about it now!

I will have to think of another small hexie project, I'm a bit lost without them!

My son came home from Uni last night so it has been a good family day today........right up to the part where I disturbed some paper wasps and got about 14 stings on my back and arm. Feeling a bit fragile now, but at least my hands haven't swollen, so I'll still be able to stitch.

I hope you're having a happy Easter of stitching, chocolate and NO creepy crawlies!

Catching up

I have had some wonderful contributions to my bunny stash, bloggers are so generous and always ready to share some of their stash. Thank you CathyPatCarla and Susan. I will soon have enough to start sewing my bunny hexies together.

Last weekend was our 22nd wedding anniversary. We celebrated with a behind the scenes overnight trip to Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo. It was a stunning experience, how often do you get to feed a carrot to a giraffe or hear a lion roar just metres away? I would highly recommend it if you get the chance to go.

I've also had a win from Dzintra for her 500th post. Some patterns and bunny fabric are a lovely treat, thank you.

And some progress on the next round of my quilt. Just checking how my hexie diamonds will look.

Wishing you all a happy and stitchy weekend, especially all my friends at Girls Day In the Country, Nundle.

FNWF

Oops, FNWF has been and gone and I missed showing what I worked on. It's the next round of my new quilt........but I didn't finish it until after work today. I waited to post so I could show you my progress.

Not the greatest light for the photo but you get the idea. I'm on to the next round now, really enjoying the whole process.

Happy stitching,

Fun and a surprise

My weekend retreat at Two Rivers Winery (Denman) was wonderful. It was exactly what I needed. The cottage was lovely, and the company exceptional. Below is before and after we unpacked. Most of us were hand sewing this time.......unfortunately no respectable group photo.

No finishes for me from the weekend, but a lot of progress......this mini is ready for a tiny bit of quilting.....

I made a start on my bunny hexagon quilt. These hexagons are a huge 1 1/2". I got the idea from Cathy. I'm a long way off a quilt, so if you have any 4" squares of bunny fabric you don't want I could put them to good use!

I came home to a very sweet surprise from Marina. It's very cute, and will be in use long after Easter. Thank you.

Unbelievably, it's FNWF again tomorrow. I'm looking forward to doing some more applique on my own quilt, it's a little bit too warm for hand quilting yet.

Happy sewing,
Susan x
