I've been a bit preoccupied with our ensuite renovation this week. We have moved right out of our bedroom into the lounge room, so the house is in disarray. The builder started on Tuesday and all is progressing according to plan (so far). I'm still painting the front fence, and quite enjoying supervising rather than doing the actual renovation work for a change. I admit that I do rather like painting, I'll be doing the ensuite and all through our wardrobe too.
So not a great deal of sewing happening. I have been doing some secret sewing and fiddling with little hexies. I'm also finishing off the second pincushion that came in the Heart and Soul kit from Hatched and Patched.

And for something completely different I dyed a dress today. I bought a white linen dress on sale, and whilst I loved the dress, it was a bit see through. I bought some blue denim Dylon and today Mr 12 and I got creative in the laundry. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and astonished that the stitching is still snowy white. Mr 12's new blue socks are still drying!
I'm looking forward to Sculptures in the Garden tomorrow, and some stitching time. Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Love your new/blue dress! Enjoy your renovating!!
ReplyDeleteRenovations are such fun Susan! I'm amazed too that the stitching on the dress is still white!
ReplyDeleteYou really have been busy! Looks like you're working on more gorgeous projects... wonder what they are going to be. The dress dyeing was very successful. Once I dyed a pair of brown trousers navy blue.... the thread stayed brown!! Must be a thread thing. Have fun with your renovations
ReplyDeleteHave never tried using dyes in clothing...most adventourous I have been is over dying fabric with Rit Tan Your dress is adorable and turned out great. Don't you love seeing the finished results after a home decorating project is completed. We have always been DIY kind of homeowners but when we had our home built almost 20 years ago we just pointed and directed. Things have been getting redone but now we seem back to DIY again. 20 years have slowed us down but eventually it gets done:o)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing what a difference a little dye can make? The thread is most likely not 100% cotton, that's why it didn't dye the color... but I love how it looks!!! Renovations are fun... when their done!
ReplyDeleteGreat work with the dye! Hope your renovating continues to go well - happy painting!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great weekend too.
ReplyDeletefun to be renovating.... a lovely new room to look forward to... the denim dress looks great... how fun that the stitching stayed white as it looks lovely.... and such pretty stitchng happening...

You were very brave dying your dress but it looks lovely, very funny that the stitching stayed snow white though? did you take a before photo of the dress before you dyed it? Good luck with the ensuite reno's hope they stay on track for you :) Barb.
ReplyDeleteRenovations are mostly fun. I enjoy painting too - as long as Im not rushed to do it. The dress looks great!

ReplyDeleteAren't you the clever one with the dye! I can imagine the kids found this fun - hence the new blue socks? I quite enjoy painting too - once all the drop sheets and rearranging furniture is out the way...

Great job on the dress...Love it!....Glad the rennos are moving along too...(My kitchen is nearly there!) You'll be able to inspect it soon!
ReplyDeleteYour dress turned out great! love all your stitchy bits :)
ReplyDeleteI bet you are sleeping very well at night after all the physical labour during the day. Dyeing the dress was a great idea, looks very chic.
ReplyDeleteThat was a bonus, that the stitching did not take the dye! Your painting job sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteI have this dress in white and am always worried about it being see through. Never thought of dyeing it. What a great idea. I have the same dress in green and mocha, such a great summer dress/tunic, I wear mine with tights and tshirt if a bit cooler. Hope you love yours as much as I love mine.
