What do you think?

This is the centre block of Irish Circles, I loved sewing every stitch of it. Below it is the first outer block........and it just looks blah. Do you ever pull out some fabrics, make the block, then wonder what you were thinking? It may not have helped that my entire wardrobe is strewn all over my sewing room....not the best conditions for creativity. I will keep it aside to see how it looks with the other blocks, but it's not looking promising.

On a brighter note, I am super excited about our new ensuite. It's looking great, and will hopefully have some pictures to post next week.

Hubby is away on his annual pilgrimage to the Moto GP at Phillip Island (yes he has gone away and left me in charge of the renovation).

So that means a change to routine, and lots of late nights stitching. I've finished off the Heart and Soul pincushion and made some definite plans for Christmas swaps. Two quilts basted and ready for quilting.

Happy stitching.

Susan x

  1. Your Irish circles are looking gorgeous, maybe a change in the sashing on the last block may make it pop...or wait until you make some more blocks then decide. I envy your late nights stitching away! Cant wait for the reno pics, exciting!

  2. Hi Susan, I think your little block will be just fine, my thoughts are that it gives the eye a place to rest. Of course you must go with what YOU like best in the end though! That will be a gorgeous quilt. Hubby's bike is nice too! xx debbie

  3. I think you should wait a bit before deciding on a change you may find it brings up the other parts of the quilt better when it all together? Would love to see pic's of the finished bathroom reno and I soooo envy you the late night stitching what bliss! :) Barb.

  11. Love that centerpiece! Lots of time to see if the new block will work or can be salvaged. You may find that it works perfectly in the end.:) Great to be in charge of renovations by yourself!

  13. Love what you have done so far, I think time will help you decide about that block; maybe as the others have said make a few more so you can see it as part of the big picture rather than individually. Lucky you with some evenings to yourself!!

  15. Your centre looks fantastic Susan! Don't worry about the other block, once you have a few more around it, it will look fine. Hope hubby has a safe trip, that's a long way on a bike. They have been saying here on the local media that cops on both sides of the border are keeping an eye on the bikes travelling down.

  19. Your centre block is fabulous... the quilt is going to be stunning. At the risk of trying to teach my granny to suck eggs (not that inferring that you are my granny) I think that your's is the only 'eye' that will see your quilt the way you want it to look. Your eye will tell you what's right when it's ready to....trust it! Love the pincushion too.... adorable! Wish I was going to the Moto GP with your hubby.... but then... maybe I'd rather stay home with you and sew! :o)) Have fun... home alone.

  24. your Irish Circles is looking wonderful so far, maybe the first outer block lacks some of the warmth that your centre has. Lovely little pincushion! I hope your hubby has a great trip too....

  25. Susan, I adore your pincushion, and the centre of your Irish Circles is amazing, just gorgeous. I think you should make a few more of the outer blocks, and then see if you think this block is going to work. Beautiful work x
