My eldest son is soon leaving for University in Sydney. I'm so happy and excited for him, but a bit sad for me, I'll miss him so much. Fortunately it's only 3.5 hours drive away, and I'm trying to look on the positive side of all the patchwork shops I will be able to visit more regularly! Anyway, as part of his packing I made this cute pouch for some first aid supplies. And he likes it!
Hope to show some photos of the next part of my quilt design soon.
Susan x

ReplyDeleteAdd a small torch too for those power outages that DO occur. AND maybe a candle with matches. (As one mum to another). My kids have al done uni and went with a "survival" pack.

Beautiful hexies. I love those small hexies, and your colours work well.
ReplyDeleteOh my oh my, that mini hexie project is absolutely awesome. So much fiddly work, so much patience!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little pouch. Boys don't tend to love our sewn items as much as we do, but this very stylish.
ReplyDeleteI like your mini, I have been making and appliqueing half inch hexies, so I appreciate the work that went into this quilt!
those centers look great! Wonderful choice
ReplyDeleteTotally adorable Susan.
ReplyDeleteYour red hexie garden is totally awesome. That red background just makes those flowers shine. I really love it. The first aid bag is super cute too. Hope it doesn't get used, but if needed it will have the right things in it and your son will know right where to look.
ReplyDeleteWonderful hexie mini quilt - that fussy cutting is so good!
ReplyDeleteLove the first aid kit! A wonderful adventure awaits your son, but it's hard to see them go sometimes.

ReplyDeleteMadness but beautiful 1/4"hexies!. ....also love the folding knife your son made...both my children and husband are knife/sword collectors as well as wood workers so he has 3 admirers here of his great effort
ReplyDeleteKnew you'd come up with an auditioning solution - love the darker centres - subtle but perfect! The tiny teeny fussy cut flowers are so special! It is sad when they go but keeping contact with Skype and IG helps a lot:)

The hexie quilt is so beautiful Susan - I so admire your beautiful hand piecing. Love the idea of the first aid kit.
ReplyDeleteKnowing the scale of those tiny hexies is so impressive - they turned out beautifully - the detail of fussy cutting adds to their charm!!
ReplyDeleteDear Susan,

Your mini hexie quilt is beautiful Susan, the red looks fantastic. Great pouch for your son!
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the mini, Susan! I cannot believe it is still only 10 by 12 inches.
ReplyDeleteYes, just keep thinking of all those patchwork shop visits in Sydney. :)
I showed my husband your tiny flimsy. He said to tell you that ' you are certifiable' in the nicest possible way. Love the medical supplies pouch.
ReplyDeleteNothing says ' I love you and I'll miss you' like a handmade gift. Lovely idea. I think we're going to need double doses of chocolate at Two Rivers!! Love the deeper shade of red you've used in the mini. It's perfect. Oh! If you're hand quilting it on retreat, I personally offer to watch out for jumping passionfruit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flimsy Susan, and good choice with the dark red. You are right, it adds a little movement but doesn't challenge the flowers. The first aid kit is a fabulous idea. Regular trips to Sydney to keep updating the first aid kit. Got to make sure everything is replenished and has a generous use by date. And while you are there, you might as well ......
ReplyDeletethe mini hexie is looking good.............great idea first aid bag.......
ReplyDeleteYour hexies are very lovely Susan! Great choice to use the dark red. Gives it an understated subtlety - very classy. Best wishes to Son #1 as he ventures off to Uni. Our Daughter #1 is returning this weekend for her third year. Where is the time going?! Ros x
