And because I've decided I like double sided pincushions, I made a pentagon ring for the other side. One For A Wish suggested trying navy thread, and I think it looks good. I added some more navy around the sides because it looked a bit plain.
It's not my favourite pin cushion but it was an interesting experiment. I think it looks rather good on my freshly mown Spring lawn. So now it's back to my hand quilting.....I feel like it will take forever to finish.

It might have been an experiment but it has turned out really... really pretty Susan. I loved the Dresden front ... then I saw the back and loved that too. If it were mine I'd be having problems deciding which side is 'up'. Have a lovely time hand quilting.....xxx
ReplyDeletelooks good.......working on a linen project at the moment........

Dear Susan,
ReplyDeletelovely Dresden pincushion, nice idea with the navy thread.
Good luck on the handquilting progress. Needs a lot of new starts.
Greetings,
Sylvia
I like each side equally as much. The hand quilting adds a nice contrast.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet! Both sides are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat result! Lovely, Susan, happy quilting :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd say your experiment worked out will. Too bad you couldn't open up that bag of walnut shells. Next time.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely pincushion, the blue and navy work really well together.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet!

ReplyDeleteA very successful experiment Susan! Very nice indeed, dare I confess I quite like that navy BLUE thread?!
ReplyDeleteJust found you whilst blog hopping :) I love this pincushion, it turned out really well :) Its the colours in my front room so I'm going to steal your design for a full sized cushion, hope that's ok :)
ReplyDeleteThanks
Jillxo
Very sweet pin cushion--love that blue stitching! Good luck getting through the 'I'm-not-getting-anywhere hand quilting stage'. Thankfully it doesn't usually last forever.:)
ReplyDeleteYour pincushion looks really well. I like the blue quilting, it gives an extra to it.
ReplyDeleteI also like your red DJ. I can imagine why you don't make all the blocks. Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking when I started my DJ. It is so much work. But then there comes the inspiration of my quilting Bee and that really helps a lot.
I must admit I'm loving both sides, well done on your experimentation working out so beautifully :) Barb.
ReplyDeleteI love it.... do you use a paper template or a ruler template for your dresden??? I have tried both and not had much success this year.
